The special performance requirements of roll forgings make the selection and design of roll materials must have a series of characteristics, and it is difficult for general steel to meet the requirements. After many years of creative work by roll manufacturers around the world, a dedicated series of roll materials has now been formed. It can be roughly divided into four types of roll materials: cast steel, forged steel, cast iron and forged white iron. Each type of material composition and organization has its own characteristics, which are suitable for different roll fields.
Stainless steel rolls are mainly used for large primary rolls that require high strength and good breaking resistance and rough roll front rolls for hot strip continuous rolling mills, as well as cold work rolls and large backup rolls that require cold wear resistance and excellent spall resistance.
The stainless steel roll material belongs to alloy tool steel. Has high hardenability and hardenability. After the working layer is subjected to quenching and tempering heat treatment, the matrix structure of martensite, bainite, sorbite or fine pearlite is obtained, and the secondary alloy carbides are basically uniformly distributed below 10%.
Stainless steel forgings are mainly used in billet continuous rolling mill rolls and various rough rolls that require high strength and good hot wear resistance and thermal crack resistance.
Stainless steel forgings have good hot wear resistance and thermal crack resistance, and after mild forging deformation, the continuity of eutectic carbides is broken, and the uniformity and strength of stainless steel forgings are improved. The special roll material that has the advantages of both cast iron and right forged steel is unique in the roll material.
